What is breastfeeding medicine?

Breastfeeding medicine is a relatively new specialty concentrating on evaluation and treatment of feeding difficulties of breastfeeding mothers and infants, including:

  • Difficulty latching or sucking

  • High or low milk supply

  • Breast or nipple pain

  • Slow infant weight gain

  • Return to work concerns and plans

  • Premature or special needs
